The north of Argentina is pretty remote and public transport doesn't reach the best parts so we decided to take a road trip....

There were 2 roads from Cafayate to Cachi. One was supposed to be "no muy beuno" for our little VW so we decided to take the other road, which was apparently "no problemo". Correct choice - the good road involved driving through 5 rivers, over crumbling bridges and on wet, winding gravel tracks, 3500m up over mountains in fog so thick you couldn't see the ground in front of the car.
This was taken the second time we drove along this stretch of pampa - this time it was about 9am. The first time was as we left Cachi at 7:15am to see the sunrise. After driving for about an hour, we realised that we probably didn't have enough petrol to make it to the next petrol station, 300kms away. So we turned around and went back to where we'd come from. Another good decision - we only saw 3 cars in the next 3 hours so we would have been waiting a long time for a lift. Our luck didn't last long though. About 20 mins after picking up a nice lady and her 5 month old daughter who wanted a lift to Salta, we got a really flat tyre. So much for Karma. Luckily, Si knew had to change it as the 4 women looking on clearly didn't have a clue. In their defense, none of them could drive either and one of them couldn't even walk.

The pictures are impressing, maybe even more because I know there are taken by someone "real", not just a simple photo agency.
