Rio baby!

what you'd expect from rio

  • 30+ everyday
  • every colour and pattern of havaianas you could want - and everyone wears them
  • cutest kids everywhere (often sleeping on the street)
  • nice beaches, shame about the millions of people
  • samba isn't just an over-rated dance, it doesn't even look like a real dance. dance like your a 4 year old pretending to tap-dance. you're doing samba.
  • "oooh look, it's another casper-dog. soooo cute"
  • great juice
  • great fresh bread
  • crap caipirinhas. very disappointing. Brazilian rum isn't even rum, it's just fermented sugar-cane, exactly the same as bio-ethanol. it costs just over 1 pound/litre, only slightly more than car fuel (which is probably the cost of the bottle).
  • skol is to beer, as coke is to cola.
  • big surf. just need to learn how to make the most of it.
  • small bikinis. one size fits all, usually.
  • the biggest party in the world - we lasted 12 hours but it beat us.
  • beautiful view from the mountains... that gets worse the closer you get.

what you actually get from rio

Rio has been absolutely amazing - especially carnival. the last week and a half have been pretty mental, so we're heading north tomorrow on an overnight bus...just over halfway to salvador. hopefully the quiet town of Arraial D'Ajuda will have some space on the beach, some good capoeira, a place to put the hammock and a chance to spend 24 hours sober.

hope everyone is great.
love, sun, feathers and flip flops,
