Pass the salt...

Laguna Blanco - 5000m - the highest point of the jeep trip

We drove into Bolivia on a road that wasn't really a road and that set the precedent for the rest of the 3 days we spent jeeping it across deserts, volcanoes, geysers and salt flats before we arrived in Uyuni. Freezing nighttime temperatures, thin, high altitude air and electricity that they switched off by 9pm meant we were cold most of the time, gasping for breathe when we walked anywhere and slept a lot because it was too dark to see. Despite this sounding pretty awful we had THE coolest time - the weird French guy Vincent turned out to be really funny and the 3 Americans guys were really cool (ok 2 much more than the other, but we didn't give him our blog) - even our driver Tao turned out to be quite nice (in the end). I think we felt that for the first time since we've left we were really roughing it which was a nice change!

Laguna Verde

Laguna Colarado - 1st night stay (concrete beds, all our clothes on, 8 blankets, -18degrees)

Mud geysers

Salar de Uyuni - the biggest salt flats in the world

After we arrived in Uyuni we spent the next 4 days trying to leave to Sucre. Bolivians love to protest so most of the roads were blockaded with burning cars and buses. After walking round the town for 3 days (about the size of Portobello) - we decided to check into the fanciest hostel in the town that had a bath and cable TV...and the next day we manged to get out on a bus bound for La Paz.
